Sign Language Week 2026

A post in our latest news section.

This week, Reception to Year 6 have been celebrating Sign Language Week, coming together to learn about the importance of communication, inclusion, and the beauty of British Sign Language (BSL). Throughout the week, children took part in fun and engaging activities—learning how to sign simple words and phrases, exploring stories told through sign, and understanding how BSL helps us connect with others.

Classes enjoyed practising fingerspelling, joining in with signed songs, and discovering how deaf awareness helps everyone feel valued and included. Our pupils showed wonderful enthusiasm and respect as they learned new skills and embraced different ways of communicating.

We are proud of how confidently the children signed and how thoughtfully they discussed the importance of creating a welcoming, inclusive school community. Sign Language Week has inspired us all to keep championing communication in all its forms!
