Prayer and Liturgy

Prayer and liturgy is the heartbeat of our school through daily prayer, regular celebration of the word, pastoral prayer in house groups and termly Holy Mass with Fr Rose as a school and parish family.

As a school we follow in the cyclical journey of the Universal Church in our observance of the liturgical seasons. Changing our liturgical colours, celebrating special feast days, Saints days and other important Holy days.

At St Agnes, we aim to provide thought – provoking, engaging experiences throughout our Celebration of the Word. Prayer is an important, inclusive and integral part of every school day. Celebration of the word is carefully planned so that everyone can participate fully and enter into an experience of prayer which encourages children to grow in relationship with God, the world and those around us.

In this Jubilee year we are called to celebrate the love of Jesus even more. Pope Francis encourages us to become ‘Pilgrims of Hope’. As pilgrims of hope Pope Francis and Bishop Stephen ask us to put Catholic Social Teaching into action, showing support for our brothers and sisters and our common home. Therefore, we will be meeting regularly in our House groups for pastoral prayer so we may journey as pilgrims together.

We have a wonderful relationship with our parish of St Agnes and with both Fr Rose and Fr James. We come together as one community when we celebrate mass here at school and at St Agnes Church.

We have learnt more about Saints across the world from all walks of life through our ‘Saint of the Month’. Our pupils are introduced to a Saint every month in a short, directed prayer session and sometimes a whole school assembly. The children are able to see that saints are just ordinary people who have done extra ordinary things. We hope they are inspired by these holy saints in their daily lives.

Thanks to Mrs Pinnella Noble and Mrs Exley for organising our Careers Fayre, this year. Our Year 5 and Year 6 children were totally engaged in a range on offer. The representatives from each company were really interesting and were so thorough in their responses to both pupil and parent questions. Don’t take my word […]

Ready to rock!

The Rocksteady rockstars entertained the whole school in their very first concert and blew everyone away!

‘Read all about it!’

Mrs. Pinnella Noble and our school council met a couple of weeks ago to discuss which titles and genres were missing from our school library. During the meeting, they provided Mrs. Pinnella Noble with a list of possible titles and authors that they thought children would enjoy. Using the money raised at the Scholastic’s book […]
